
HSE Lecturers Awarded Yandex ML Prize 2025
The Yandex ML Prize is awarded to lecturers and heads of educational programmes who contribute to the development of artificial intelligence in Russia. This year, 10 laureates were selected from 300 applicants, including three members of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS). A special Hall of Fame award was also presented for contributions to the establishment of machine learning as an academic field. One of the recipients was Dmitry Vetrov, Research Professor at the HSE FCS.

Techarena Training Camp in Sports Programming Held at HSE University
The HSE University Faculty of Computer Science has hosted the third Techarena Challenge competition and the HSE Techarena Training Camp. More than 130 teams from Russian and international universities took part, competing to solve an optimisation problem. The on-site round, which was scored individually, lasted four hours.

HSE University Holds HSE CS × BRICS Ideathon
On November 9, 2025, the HSE CS × BRICS Ideathon—a large-scale intensive event for students aimed at developing international project skills and finding solutions to current challenges facing BRICS countries—took place at HSE University’s Pokrovsky Bulvar campus. The event was organised by the Multilateral Strategic Projects Office with the support of the BRICS Expert Council–Russia , the Faculty of Computer Science (FCS), and the HSE FCS Hackathon Club

Graduate School of Business MBA Students Take Part in Offsite Module in China
MBA students of the HSE Graduate School of Business HSHSE have recently completed the international component of their studies at the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University. The module focused on developing business through innovation. The participants discussed the impact of new technologies on corporate structures and visited companies operating in robotics and renewable energy.

The PROD Software Engineering Olympiad Goes International
The world’s first annual software engineering olympiad for secondary school students—PROD—is expanding internationally. Schoolchildren in grades 8–11 from around the world are invited to participate. For the first time, the competition will be held in both Russian and English. The organisers of the International PROD Olympiad are Central University and T-Technologies Group, the parent company of T-Bank, in partnership with the HSE Faculty of Computer Science.

HSE Students Show Outstanding Results at Prestigious CTF Competitions
In late October 2025, HSE University students achieved outstanding results in several Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions on information security. Five students joined the Moscow national team, which won the Russian Sports Programming Championship, while three other HSE teams became finalists and winners of the UralCUP CTF and the Kuban CTF tournaments. The CTF Academy, an initiative that brings together students and teachers, has served as a central hub for building HSE's CTF community.

HSE Launches an International Project to Study Russian as a Foreign Language
In mid-October, the HSE School of Foreign Languages held the official opening of the International Educational Online Club for Russian as a Foreign Language and Russian Culture, called GLAGOL’. The project brings together participants from 20 countries—international students and lecturers from 10 HSE faculties, as well as representatives of more than 10 Russian and foreign universities.

‘The Goal Is to Create Something New for My Country’
Maria Andreeva became interested in satellite engineering in Year 6. Then, she was a prize-winner of the Top Class (Vysshiy Pilotazh) competition, gave lectures for school students, and took part in meetings with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. Two years ago, a satellite she helped develop was launched into space. This year, Maria entered HSE University to study on the Information Science and Computation Technology programme delivered by the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). In an interview with the HSE News Service, the first-year student spoke about her passion for space and the opportunities she has found at the university.

‘It’s Important to Me Not to Rest on My Laurels’
Uliana Kisataeva, a student at the HSE Graduate School of Business, was one of the winners of the UN Global Compact PRME 2025 Business Case Competition supported by the United Nations. As part of the competition, Uliana presented a digital platform called Green B2B Match, which can help businesses reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to the development of responsible consumption. In an interview with the HSE News Service, she spoke about her project, the competition, and her victory.

HSE University–St Petersburg and Indian Institute of Management to Launch Joint Seminar for PhD Students
Galina Shirokova, Director of the Strategic Entrepreneurship Centre at HSE University–St Petersburg and Doctor of Economic Sciences, held a series of seminars for students of the Indian Institute of Management in Indore (IIM—Indore). Plans are also underway to launch a joint educational project.
